 | Owen Carman received his B.M. at the Curtis Institute and his M.M. at The Juilliard School. A student of Leonard Rose, Channing Robbins, David Soyer and Orlando Cole, he recently retired as Professor of Cello at Michigan State University where he joined the faculty in 1977. Mr. Carman was formerly the Principal Cellist of the Eastern Music Festival and member of the New College and Beaumont String Quartets. He was guest artist with the Juilliard String Quartet and has performed for PBS television and National Public Radio.
As cellist of The Meadowmount Trio, he has recorded on the Melodiya/Russian Disc, and Citadel labels. He has concertized in Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Russia, and has presented master classes at major universities and conservatories. His students perform in many U.S. orchestras, major chamber ensembles and teach at prominent music schools. He joined the Meadowmount faculty in 1981 and was appointed Director of Meadowmount and President of the Society for Strings, Inc. in 1989.
