If you’re serious about jazz, you probably already know about Thomastik-Infeld strings. Professionals swear by them because they’ve been engineered to create the sound they’re looking for.

You can choose from four varieties: our traditional Jazz series in Swing (flat wound) or BeBop (round wound); or our all-new George Benson signature strings, also available in round or flat wound. All feature similar construction characteristics, but the George Benson sets are custom-gauged to George’s own specs.

All our jazz strings start with a precision-made round core of high-carbon steel. Other brands use hex cores for simplified manufacturing, but we’ve found that a true round core vibrates more freely, with no preferred motion axis. The string ends are then silk-wrapped, to secure the windings in place and extend playing life.

Our flatwound strings are actual, flat ribbon-wound unlike others who use shortcut processes such as ground wound or compressed windings. The surface is highly polished pure nickel, with a supple and responsive feel.

And though some consider round wound jazz strings sacrilegious, ours are different. Brighter than the flats, they feature an unusually dense, thin-diameter pure nickel winding (see cutaway), which retains the warm jazz coloring while expanding its range into the upper frequencies. Their tone has been described as having "piano-like clarity."

We’re flattered to be known as the "reference standard" strings among top players like George Benson. Try some yourself and see why!
